North American Is Dominating Legionella Testing Industry

The global legionella testing market was valued at USD 299.0 million in 2022 and will grow at a rate of about 8.0% during 2021–2030, reaching USD 554.0 million by 2030, according to P&S Intelligence.

The growth of the market can be credited to the growing occurrence of Pontiac fever, pneumonia, and Legionnaire’s disease. Legionnaires’ illness, also known as legionella pneumonia, is a serious kind of pneumonia triggered by the legionella microorganisms. It spreads from minor droplets of water that comprise the bacteria, or when, falsely, water goes into the lungs while swallowing.

Approximately 1.4 million kids whose age is below five years expire each year due to pneumonia. Furthermore, every 39 seconds, a kid expires from this common illness.

In 2022, the PCR category had the largest market share. PCR is the most-popular technique utilized for sensing legionella microorganisms as it displays the consequences in one day and is extremely sensitive, accurate, and specific. Furthermore, PCR might be superior to urinary antigen testing in the recognition of this pathogen.

Thus, businesses are providing fast PCR approaches to sense legionella. For example, in January 2023, EMSL Analytical Inc. introduced fast PCR and conventional culturing approaches to sense legionella in the atmosphere, to stop the spread of Legionnaires’ illness.

In 2022, the North American region held the largest revenue share, of 44%, credited to the growing count of patients with legionella contamination and the growth of the healthcare system in this continent. A projected 8,000–18,000 individuals in the U.S. are admitted to infirmaries per annum with Legionnaire’s illness.

Furthermore, in 2022, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control declared examined Legionnaire’s illness cases in Darlington County. There have been 13 cases of the illness recognized as part of the outburst so far.

Hence, the legionella testing industry is boosted by the increasing occurrence of legionnaire’s illness because of the high levels of water contamination.
